2025 Mentorship Program Overview

The ISC2 Charlotte Metro Chapter Mentor Program aims to pair experienced cybersecurity professionals with mentees who are looking to advance their skills, gain industry insights, and expand their professional network. The program spans 8 months (March - November) and includes structured monthly themes, resource guides, and activities to foster meaningful mentorship relationships. To participate in the program, you must be an active member of the chapter.

Mentor and Mentee Responsibilities

To ensure a successful and mutually beneficial mentorship experience, both mentors and mentees have defined responsibilities. These roles foster accountability, collaboration, and alignment with the program's goals.

Mentor Responsibilities
  1. Guidance and Support

    • Provide professional advice and share industry insights.

    • Help mentees navigate career decisions and technical challenges.

  2. Set Clear Expectations

    • Establish goals and boundaries at the start of the program.

    • Communicate availability and preferred methods of communication.

  3. Facilitate Growth

    • Encourage mentees to step out of their comfort zones.

    • Share opportunities for skill-building, such as webinars, certifications, or trainings.

  4. Offer Constructive Feedback

    • Provide honest and actionable feedback on mentees' performance.

    • Assist with resume reviews, interview preparation, and career mapping.

  5. Be a Role Model

    • Exhibit professionalism, ethical behavior, and industry best practices.

    • Demonstrate how to approach challenges and build resilience.

  6. Track Progress

    • Keep a record of mentorship sessions and mentee achievements.

    • Adjust guidance based on the mentee’s evolving goals and needs.

  7. Encourage Networking

    • Introduce mentees to professional networks and communities.

    • Suggest relevant events or conferences to attend.

  1. Be Proactive

    • Take ownership of your development by actively seeking guidance and feedback.

    • Come prepared to mentorship sessions with questions and updates.

  2. Set Goals

    • Identify personal and professional objectives for the mentorship program.

    • Work with the mentor to create an actionable plan.

  3. Commit to the Program

    • Honor time commitments by attending all scheduled meetings.

    • Communicate promptly if changes or conflicts arise.

  4. Be Open to Feedback

    • Accept constructive criticism with a willingness to improve.

    • Implement advice and provide updates on progress.

  5. Take Initiative

    • Actively explore resources provided by the mentor.

    • Engage in projects, certifications, or skill-building activities recommended.

  6. Show Appreciation

    • Acknowledge the mentor’s time and effort.

    • Keep the mentor informed about how their guidance has helped.

  7. Build the Relationship

    • Maintain professional and respectful communication.

    • Be an active participant by sharing challenges, successes, and ideas.

 

 

Shared Responsibilities

    • Agree on communication preferences and frequency of meetings.

  2. Maintain Confidentiality

    • Protect sensitive information shared during mentorship sessions.

  3. Stay Committed

    • Both mentor and mentee should actively participate throughout the program.

    • Address any conflicts or misunderstandings promptly.

  4. Celebrate Success

    • Recognize milestones and achievements together.

    • Reflect on the progress made and lessons learned.
